Church Law & Tax was founded in the 1980s by attorney and CPA Richard Hammar and James Cobble.
In 2005, Hammar and Cobble sold Church Law & Tax to Christianity Today International, a not-for-profit global media organization. Cobble retired, while Hammar continued with Church Law & Tax as its senior editor.
In May of 2024, Gloo LLC acquired Church Law & Tax along with its sister site, ChurchSalary. Gloo, based in Boulder, Colorado, is a trusted platform that releases the collective might of the faith ecosystem, connecting ministry leaders to resources, people, data and insights, and funding so their people and communities flourish and their organizations thrive.
Hammar continues to serve as Church Law & Tax’s senior editor. Similarly, attorney and editor Matthew Branaugh and digital content manager Rick Spruill remain part of Church Law & Tax.
The acquisition positions Church Law & Tax to continue building upon nearly five decades of serving churches and church leaders. Church Law & Tax’s Advantage Members and Basic Members receive uninterrupted access and benefits to ChurchLawAndTax.com and ChurchLawAndTaxStore.com.
Expanded benefits for Advantage Members have also been incorporated through the acquisition, including exclusive access to Church Law & Tax’s Reducing the Risk child sexual abuse prevention training program, exclusive cohorts with legal and accounting professionals, and other content features and tools.
